Reigniting my education spark: how to use Twitter (quickly) to discover what’s new, exciting and relevant to you as a teacher.

I am coming to the end of maternity leave number 2 and desperately trying to keep up with all the educational developments during the last 6 months. In some respects it’s a lot harder what with all the changes in political spheres of late, but I’ve found a way to make it a darn site [...]

I spoke to a man who didn’t stutter.

I did. A man who worked with me but retired in the summer. I met him randomly and for the first time, a rather strong stutter  was not at all in evidence. Could it be because he feels more relaxed now? It made me think about what I do to relax, how I take time [...]

Is the new EBacc seriously going to discount Arts and Design subjects?

Is the new EBacc seriously going to discount Arts and Design subjects?

I am incensed! I’d heard rumours that there would be no real room for creative subjects in the Government’s proposals for the new English Baccalaureate, and I knew about the draft proposal to effectively cut out drama from the primary curriculum, but today I have realised just how serious they are. This blog is not [...]

Successful Exam Season Over … Almost

Half term saw the GCSE Drama Performance Exam done and dusted, and a very successful day it was. One to one tutoring and free websites

Have put my name down to do English one to one tutoring in secondary schools so awaiting a few local schools to get back to me. Really looking forward to the possibility of helping pupils with their attainment. Have second meeting with Selly Oak Cluster Coordinator tomorrow so we’ll see what that turns up as [...]

And the beat goes on

Drama GCSE consultancy underway. Very productive session last Friday, in spite of the fire alarm interruption and having to change the schedule following issues with coursework. It is particularly encouraging and refreshing to work with senior teachers who are accommodating but realistic. I identified a problem, we discussed it, we came to a mutually beneficial [...]

Pulling the workshop threads together

Had four fantastic meetings now: Pepita Hanna (Head of Arts Ed BCC), Alison Selvey (Selly Oak Cluster Co-ordinator), David Wort (Family Equip) and Lynette Bramble (Learning Mentor DECTC). There are a lot of possibilities but I now need to start pulling all the threads together and get things going. Have left my website for the [...]

Funding possibility

Meeting with Selly Oak extended schools co-ordinator went really well. It was more of an interview, I believe, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. She knows just how to tackle community and educational engagement in a productive and non-threatening way. I could learn a great deal from her but I think that may [...]

Excellent Meeting, now for another

The Monday meeting with Pepita Hanna went really well – a wealth of information, advice and support. I’ve already acted on some of her advice and taken advantage of the opportunity to meet with the co-ordinator for the Selly Oak Extended Schools Cluster via LB at DECTC. Have just finished preparing for that. The consultancy [...]
