Teaching
On graduation from Bretton Hall, Jax became Teacher in Charge of Drama at Ise Community College (East Midlands). As an unqualified teacher, Jax had to draw on her Theatre in Education experience and take every possible professional development opportunity to provide the high standard of education that her students and colleagues came to expect. Within five years of this, Jax gained her teaching qualification and became Head of Drama at Rushden Community College, achieving 100% A-G grades, including 72% A-C with her GCSE group of 2005.
After examining Edexcel GCSE Drama (Paper 2, Performance) for three years, Jax is now embarking on GCSE Drama coursework moderation for both Edexcel and OCR. The knowledge and experience gained has allowed her to step into schools at short notice to advise, support and/or take over GCSE and A-Level exam groups.
Jax has broadened her experience in teaching over the last five years by working in various secondary schools in the West Midlands and teaching all subject areas. She was nominated for the 2007 Recruitment and Employment Confederation Supply Teacher of the Year award following her work with Year 9 Students who achieved improved results in their Science SAT exam. She is often requested to cover Curriculum Leader of English and Drama roles, and to provide lesson observations for student teachers in various subject areas.
High standards of discipline, inspirational teaching, and taking time to listen to, respond to and learn from pupils are the bedrock of Jax’s teaching philosophy. She also takes every opportunity to build strong and lasting relationships with both teaching and support staff.
Other teaching experience includes:
- Delivering workshops in primary and secondary schools
- Theatre in Education work
- Workshops in probation hostels and Newhall Women’s prison
- Adult workshops on developing self-confidence
- Workshops with foreign exchange students and members of CPAS Pathfinder Venture holidays.
